Episode 72 – Let’s Rank It!

This is a heartfelt edition of Team GFB Radio. We laughed. We cried. We planned a wedding for a stranger.

Dave starts by going over the latest Iron Galaxy Mandatory Fun Company Bender, wherein he watched Pacific Rim in the office with Ramon asleep next to him at five in the morning. The guys both started and, get this, finished (!) OXENFREE and have some spoiler-free thoughts on it. Dave has some musings on the show to this point, and Darryl doesn’t seem to appreciate them. Darryl gets Dave up to speed on the world of Lego Dimensions, and there’s some more Ori and Max and the Cursed Brotherhood talk before the guys roll into emails.

There were a lot of emails this week, and they were all good, but one stood out. It’s the one wherein the guys know how they will rebrand Team GFB Radio. Finally.

Episode 71 – Drunk In A Cornfield

This episode is, as they say, a grower not a show-er. The guys (for some reason) start off talking about their Coravins, then Dave transitions into talking about his new iPhone. This is probably a good time to remind you that without some boring parts in the shows you wouldn’t appreciate the great bits when they occur.

Darryl got a 3D printer and, probably because he’s a good father, decided to make toys for his girls instead of weapons like Dave would have. Then Dave went to LA where he saw his High School friend and comedian Brian Babylon and Multiplayer on Dash curator Alex Rubens, before going to a day trip to Orlando where he packed in too much drinking into too short a time.

Dave played Ori with his 9 year old son, and found it difficult to explain what a Metroid-Vania style game is to him, and why he should care. Darryl played some adventure games and the guys finally played Who’s Your Daddy. Turns out they are both awful dads, but you probably already knew that.

In emails, Dave tells the story of his Oktoberfest in Breese, IL back in 1994 (spoiler: it ends poorly), and the guys answer a question about what some one in Marketing does over the course of a game’s development cycle.

Episode 70 – Dave Got Iced… Again

Turns out when you do an episode without a coherent theme, typing up show notes is kind of a chore. Imagine trying to tie together such disparate concepts/activities as the Plants v. Zombies board game, Witcher 3, fancy wine gadgets, and getting iced.

LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

If we had achieved this feat we would have received a Pulitzer Prize, I shit you not. Our genius would have been recognized on the global stage. But, instead, we have what you’re reading now.

Oh! They also spent forever on emails. Why did I even get out of bed today?

Episode 69 – New Year, New Resolutions

It’s the first Team GFB Radio of Twenty-Six-Teen! What does that mean?

More of the same, sadly.

Dave talks about travel.

The guys make some half-hearted resolutions.

They inject an ill-timed Her Story spoiler cast into the middle of this episode.

And to top it off, somehow Darryl is experiencing his first Steam sale.

*sigh*

Sorry, everyone. Maybe the guys will come up with some new stuff in 2017.

Episode 68 – The Son Of Big Breakfast

The guys got on their Sunday night recording grind for you, dear listeners, for you. They hope you enjoy the result.

They guys spend a lot of time discussing past Holiday parties, so if you’re not into that maybe consider just skipping to the twenty-six minute mark? If, however, Holiday Parties align with your personal brand then this is a show for you. Starting around the four-minute mark Dave talks about the historic shortcomings of Iron Galaxy Orlando Holiday parties….until this year when they’ve snatched the “Best Holiday Party of all Time” crown from Iron Galaxy Chicago’s 2010 banger. Before you can protest this claim: It’s not even close.

Darryl dove head-long into the Steam ecosystem over Holiday break, and fell in love with Gone Home. Dave then discussed getting sick after Christmas, and he’s son’s dark voyage into the breakfast sandwich subculture.

Episode 67 – The Force Was Not With Frank N Steins

This show is split up into three distinct parts:

Part 1: Small talk with Dave and Darryl. The guys talk about some immutable laws of game dev, the Orlando Team GFB meet-up, and some light game chat.

Part 2: Dave does a solo email session, and realizes he ruined an otherwise lovely Anniversary present for a CCG.

Part 3: Star Wars Spoiler Cast.

(We forgot to do a GFB at the end of the show, and the guys have never been more ashamed).

Episode 66 – Team GFB Presents: Dave Lang and the CCG All-Star Spectacular

The entirety of this show was recorded live from the Playstation Experience, where Dave interviewed a metric ton of CCGs. He started off talking with Playstation’s Matt Kessler, but was quickly ambushed by CBSi’s Jeff Gerstmann mid-interview. Please savor this chat, as we suspect it will be the last time Matt will be allowed to speak on Playstation’s behalf.

After getting Matt to roll over on several business partners, Dave and Jeff chat up Matt’s boss, Gio Corsi of Playstation. Gio is a show veteran, and comports himself with an unusual dignity and flair. From Gio we roll right into Friend of the Show Keir, where he and Dave basically agree on what it would be like if they were to play a game of American 21. Post-Keir, Dave talks to Adriel Wallick about the joys of living in Amsterdam, and making games on trains.

Things get serious when Dave finds Dose One for a discussion on fist fights in Philly, music and sound production, and other heady issues of the day. Immediately after that, Dave bumped into Dan Teasdale and Panzer of No Goblin, who were still riding the high from their new game, 100 Robot Feet, being announced during the PSX Keynote.

Dave wraps up the podcast by chatting with Kahlief Adams from Spawn on Me, where they come up with a great idea for a new show they will never do, and Isaac Torres whom you all will quickly forget as he didn’t bring his A-game.

Episode 65 – I’m Dreaming Of A GFB Christmas

Feeling good about this one. We revisit the glory that isn’t sex in the Prius. Darryl talks about his first Turkey Day in Orlando. Dave fell into the show hole that is Hannibal. In short, the show gets off to a good start.

And somehow…it keeps rolling. Dave talks about trying to buy Assassins Creed Syndicate and Fallout 4…before succumbing to crappy download times and playing Unity. Then Dave is getting ready to go to PSX, and gets Darryl caught up with what he should expect.

Then things get awkward. Dave, for only reasons he understands, decided to role play as one of Darryl’s children. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Then he did that two more times. After that if you’re into rap music, Dave thinks you might enjoy the new Lice EP. Finally, the guys hit up a few emails before sailing away into the good night.

Episode 64 – Free Play, All Day

The guys pooped out this turd of a show right before Thanksgiving, so forgive them, their minds were elsewhere.

Dave starts by getting Darryl caught up on the snowfall he missed by deserting to Orlando. Classic Darryl, he actually misses snow!

Darryl takes command of the show with an epic retelling of his visit to Free Play Florida, where he checked out bunch of coin-op, pinball, and legacy home systems for a low, low entry fee (but not free, as the name of the show may suggest). He also tried to get Sexy talking about Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker…and that was a mistake.

The guys then talk about the massive stack of games they have on their plates, so if you like hearing people talk a lot about games they haven’t played yet this section is dedicated to you.

Finally, Dave talks about the last Divekick update before the guys answer a couple emails.

Episode 63 – Get Monked!

After last week’s disaster of a show the guys are back with a Certified Banger. Sorry about that, we’ll never have Jebailey on again.

The guys start with Darryl getting sexy and Dave getting hype. Then Dave goes into an extended retelling of his Extra Life stream for Giant Bomb, and boy, if you’re super into Until Dawn you’re in luck. Turns out that game is amazing, and they guys talk at length about it (they veer briefly into spoilerville, but you can avoid that easily enough with the timestamps below). Until Dawn is currently in the driver’s seat for GOTY.

The show gets rounded out by talking about Dave’s trip to Oculus, and friend of the show Liz sends in a quality email.
